The Preparing for Life Foundation
The Preparing for Life Foundation was established in 2013. Its statutes (English version / Dutch version) state the foundation's objective as follows:
The foundation serves the public interest and aims to promote, develop, and in every way support policies and activities worldwide that lead to the birth of children without preventable diseases and abnormalities, as well as safe motherhood;the initiative focuses on preventive care, particularly in the pre-conception phase, in order to substantially reduce child mortality.
This objectieve can be realized as a joint effort by:
- raising (inter)national public awareness
- accessible preconception consult for women of childbearing age and their partners
- equipping healthcare providers for services in the field of preconception care
- supporting governments and NGO's in identifying options for implementing structural preconception care
- promoting the development of structural programs by learned societies
- addressing risk factors that influence the health of the mother and future child
- implementing preconception care into existing programs and services, particularly primary health care
- establishing a global network of active preconception care ambassadors
- offering a platform for the exhange of inspiring practices
We facilitate global and local collaboration between diverse disciplines and groups: scientists, physicians and caregivers, healthcare organizations, public health, patient organizations, government agencies, service organizations, and educational organizations. We work catalyticly by identifying leading experts and organizations in the field of nutrition, medicines, lifestyle, genetics and environment. As ambassadors, they in turn can motivate others to be active at a local, regional or national level in the field of preconception care.
